Construction to Begin Soon on Kirkwood Rd. Sidewalk Project

The first phase of the Kirkwood Road sidewalk construction project is set to begin. This first phase, funded by Walk Arlington, will construct a new sidewalk on the west side of Kirkwood Road from Lee Highway to a just north of 17th Street North. Signs will be posted along this portion of Kirkwood Road announcing this construction, this week. Pending unpredictable weather, the goal is for phase one to be completed by the end of February 2012. The second phase, which was approved and funded through the County’s Neighborhood Conservation Program, will connect the sidewalk from 17th Street North to 14th Street North. The target date for completion of the second phase construction is late this year or early 2013. This project is something that residents along Kirkwood Road, along with the Ballston-Virginia Square Civic Association, have supported strongly for many years. This project will greatly increase the walkability and sense of community for the residents along Kirkwood and the surrounding community.
